TECHNICAL DATA

Runway

The runway and taxiways were designed based on a Boeing 757 as critical aircraft. The parking platform allows for the simultaneous operation of two medium-sized aircraft (B 737 – MD 80) and one smaller aircraft.

The airport’s main characteristics are detailed below:

  • Airport codes:
    • ECA - ANAC
    • SAWC - OACI
    • FTE - IATA
  • Runway length: 2,550 meters
  • Runway width: 45 meters
  • Safety areas: 150 meters (beyond each runway end) and a paved shoulder 7.0 meters wide (asphalt-treated)
  • Heading of runway: 07-25
  • Airfield location indicator SAWH (ECA) 16.5 km to the east-northeast of the City of El Calafate
  • Reference point: SOUTH Latitude 50° 16’ 48.91’’ / WEST Longitude 72° 03’ 11.58’’
  • Commercial platform: 42,000 square meters with 8 parking bays
  • Airfield elevation: 204 meters msl
  • Elevation: End: 07: 203.82 / End: 25: 198.94
  • Taxiways: 23 meters wide, designed for high speed
  • The structural design is formed by two granular layers of 20 cm and 15 cm, with a weight bearing value (CBR) of approximately 63. The runway and taxiway surface layer is made of concrete (32 cm).
  • Signalling: Diurnal on runway, taxiways and platform. Markings were made with special reflective paint.
  • Ultimate strength values of concrete specimen: 420 km/cm2. These values relate to the entire concrete surface (runway, taxiway and platform).
  • Weight bearing capacity: T2 = 82 / T4 = 155 / T8 = 395
